A magazineはインディペンデントで、ファッション、アートに寛大で、デザイナーに対して愛情を持ち合わせた
ピースフルな雑誌だと思います。最初にキュレーションのお話があった時はとても興奮し、溢れるアイデアを
実行することは時間との闘いでしたね。内容に関しては限りなく自由にやらせてもらってうれしい反面、
大きな責任を背負いながらのクリエイションは、コレクションと同量の労力を費やしました。
一緒に編集作業をした、A magazineのNathalie、Paulとは心地よい緊張感を保ちながら仕事をすることが
でき、協力してくれたアーティスト、デザイナーは全て自分が尊敬する方々だったので、夢のような仕事
でした。今振り返ってみると、いろいろな反省点はありますが、実質3ヶ月という短期間の作業にしては
十分な仕上がりになったと思っています。またいつか再チャレンジしてみたいですね。

i think a magazine is an independent and peaceful magazine with a tolerant heart towards fashion and art and a great love for designers. i was really excited the first time there was talk of me doing curation for it, and it was a real battle with time to implement all of hundreds of ideals i had. while i was happy that they let me have total freedom as far as content went, it was a creation with a big responsibility, so it took as much effort as one of my collections. nathalie and paul who did the editing with me worked hard and kept a good tention in the air, and all the artists and designers who collaborated are people i really respect so it was a dream job. looking back on it now, there are few things i might have done differently, but i think everything turned out as good as it could have for only having three short months to work. i'd gladly take up the challenge again sometime.

ある日曜日の朝、Jun takahashiは嵐のように僕のアトリエにやってきた。実は、彼が持ってきた
ハードディスクは飛行機の衝撃で大量のデータを失っていたんだけど、スタッフはすぐに日本と連絡を
取り、たった数時間で失った素材の8割をメールで送ってくれたんだ。スタッフの冷静さに助けられたね。
ダークかつ新鮮で、パンクとファッションの要素を備えた写真やアートワークばかりで、それらのほとんどは
彼自身が手がけたものだと知って驚いたよ。残りの2割はjunがその場で作り直してくれて、そこで僕も
彼とコラボレーションすることができた。この雑誌を作るという事は、決してひとり舞台ではなく、共に
冒険することだと思う。完成したこの号を受け取ったjunと彼のチームは、UNDER COVERのアイテムが
詰まった小包と、「僕らの一員になってくれてありがとう」というメッセージを添えた美しいポストカードを
送ってくれた。すごく心温まる思い出になったよ。

on the sunday moening, jun takahashi of UNDER COVER stormed into my atelier. i was pleasantly surprised: he took nealy all he photographs or created most of the artwark himself! all the material showed his dark yet fresh take on punk and fashion. then, it all went belly-up: apparently the hard desk had been shaken during his flight and he lost loads of material. the missing 20% jun re-created on the spot, allowing me to collaborate on it with him. i always think this magazineis a joint venture, not a solo show, when the magazine arrived in tokyo, jun and team sent me a goodie-bag with all things UNDER COVER and a sweet postcard saying ''thanks for being part of us'', which warmed my heart.

メッセージ性が強く、斬新で詩的なUNDER COVERのコレクションを見ると、素晴らしい演劇やアート展を
鑑賞した時のように、自分の魂と想像力が満たされるのを感じます。ですから私が編集長に就任した時、
それまで彼（jun takahashi）自身のことを全く知らなかったとはいえ、彼をキュレーターに招いたのは
自然の成り行きでした。奇抜で逸脱したアイデアやヴィジョンとは対照的に、彼自身の人柄はとても
穏やかで率直。そのコントラストとバランスが魅力的でしたね。編集作業の過程で、私は彼を通して
未知の美しさや繊細さを見い出すことができ、そういう意味で、彼は私をかつてないほど自由な世界へと
導いてくれました。だからこそ、疑いや偏見を抱くことなく、彼のアイデアやクリエイションを受け入れることが
できたのでしょう。彼の美的感覚はとてもリアルで''今''を感じさせるもの。けれど、そこには過去との
関連性があり、そしてまた、未来へと繋がっているのです。

seeing the rawness and the poesy of UNDER COVER's collection, i felt that my soul and imagination are filled up: exactly the same way anyone can feel after seeing a great theatre play, concert ot art exhibition. though i did not know him at all before inviting him, when i became the editor in chief of A magazine it was very natural that i invite him. as oppsed to his extreme ideas and visions, he is very gentle and open. what is dascinating with him is the contrast and balance. though the editorial process, i discovered a different perception of beauty and sensibility. consequently, he took me to the free world ever more. thats why i could accept his ideas and creations without doubt or prejudice. his scense of beauty is real as 'ici et maintenant'. yet there is always not only reference to the past. but also a link to the future.

アトリエの様子など、またドールメイキングで話題を呼んだアートワークのヴィジュアルなども
掲載してあり、見ごたえがかなりあります。
